Andretti has made clear its intentions to join Formula 1 ahead of the next major regulation change, with both Michael and Mario Andretti confident the team has the resources to see their ambition through.
The consensus among fans is that another team in F1 (specifically, a competitive one) would be a positive. The sport's expansion and growth make the addition of an 11th team seem a reasonable next step, and Stefano Domenicali has already revealed that several parties are interested in joining F1.
Andretti is currently the most public name looking to enter the sport, but there are already reports of various obstacles standing in their way.
In addition to the newly implemented Concorde Agreement and entry fee (requiring new teams to pay an estimated $200 million), Stefano Domenicali has downplayed the importance of another team joining F1.
Since no team has entered F1 post-Concorde Agreement, there is no fixed timeline on when there will be a response to Andretti's advances.
Zak Brown detailed some of his concerns in an interview with Sports Business Journal:
"I hope it's not dead, but it certainly seems like it's meeting a lot of resistance.
I wouldn't want to comment on what I think the right number is [for the entry fee] but what I would say is the value of an F1 franchise - from when the Concorde Agreement was signed to now - it's grown rapidly.
Ultimately, it's up to F1 to decide what the right number to buy in is."
There has been no word from F1 or the FIA about the status of Andretti's road to enter, but their silence can be interpreted as a response in itself.
At least for now, the prospect of a new team in F1 - whilst not an impossibility - seems extremely unlikely, as the powers that be continue to show resistance and a general disinterest in a new entry.
There is still the possibility of Audi or Porsche joining the series. Unfortunately, Audi is 'only' expected to buy or partner with an existing team, whilst Porsche will likely become engine suppliers.
At any rate, Andretti's position is not a desirable one.
