After an embarrassing start to the season in Bahrain and Jeddah, Aston Martin has made significant strides with their AMR22 machine, with the team's b-spec version in Spain showing great promise.
Even before their radical concept change at Barcelona, Aston Martin showed signs of potential, competing for points in both Imola and Miami. However, their recent package has already produced substantial improvements, with Sebastian Vettel securing P6 in the streets of Baku.
However, AMuS reports that Aston Martin is looking to unlock more potential from their updated AMR22, with important upgrades scheduled for the British GP.
The Silverstone-based team will have its sights set on the top of the midfield, given that the AMR22 showed the potential to outperform Alpine and McLaren in race trim at Baku.
This is not to say that Aston Martin have reached the summit of the mountain, but they have certainly changed the complexion of their season, which seemed doomed for disaster after the opening rounds.
Aston Martin's upgrade package is expected to further consolidate its position in the midfield, and given the success of Red Bull's very similar concept, the team can dream of making a genuine sustained charge towards the front of the grid.
It must be stressed that the characteristics of the circuit likely influenced Aston's Baku success, and therefore it will not just be smooth sailing in the upcoming rounds.
Despite this caveat, the team will be optimistic that their new direction has significant potential moving forward, not only this season but for 2023 and the remainder of these new regulations.
Sebastian Vettel's input cannot be disregarded in Aston's resurgence, as the German has comprehensively outperformed Lance Stroll this year.
On another positive note for Aston Martin, the newfound potential of the AMR22 could motivate the Four-time World Champion to extend his contract with the team and continue in F1 beyond this season.
