Fernando Alonso's future has appeared uncertain for some time now, but all evidence suggests that the Spaniard will continue with Alpine next season.

A combination of bad luck and poor reliability denied Alonso a significant number of points at the start of the season, but the Spaniard's three consecutive points finishes are starting to make his position in the standings more representative.

A third World Championship has always been cited as a motivating factor for Alonso but given Alpine's current position, that seems unlikely. Still, the 40-year-old seems as motivated as ever to continue racing, at least whilst consistent points finishes and occasional podiums are available.

The Spanish branch of motorsport.com has affirmed suspicions that Alonso is set for another season at the team. With Piastri's move to Williams seemingly imminent, an announcement from Alpine should follow suit.

Alonso is unlikely to achieve the early success of his career at Alpine, but with the promise of a more competitive field next season after the implementation of an engine freeze, the Spaniard can still dream of driving a machine closer to the front next season.
