Alfa Romeo's Fred Vasseur has confirmed the team's intention of bringing a significant upgrade package to the upcoming Spanish GP.

The Swiss-based team has enjoyed strong pace throughout 2022, securing points finishes in four of the first five races.

They find themselves in an intense battle for 4th - perhaps even 3rd - in the constructors, demonstrating they can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Mercedes and McLaren.

A series of upgrades have helped Alfa Romeo in this regard, as evidenced by their notable improvement from Australia to Imola.

In order to sustain their performance for the entire season, consistent improvement will be necessary, hence their plans to bring "big" upgrades to Catalunya.

Traditionally, most teams bring a variety of improvements to the Spanish GP and this year will be no different.

If anything, given that most teams will bring updates, Alfa Romeo's primary objective may well be to not regress.

The obvious aim is to improve, but so long as the C42 doesn't lose time relative to her rivals Alfa Romeo will solidify their hot start to the season.

The C42 is a very well-rounded machine, without any significant glaring weaknesses. Tyre management has been a strength for the team in 2022, whilst showing respectable pace in slow and high-speed corners.

Per AMuS, Alfa Romeo's upcoming package is designed for improved stability in high-speed corners, thus improving on the C42's strong foundation.

Fred Vasseur will aim to lead Alfa Romeo through the intense European season ahead, and solidify their position as a legitimate threat in the midfield.
