Esteban Ocon has enjoyed great success in 2022 so far, avoiding many of the reliability issues that have plagued his teammate and securing top 10 finishes for Alpine on a consistent basis.

The Frenchman's future in F1 is far more straightforward than that of his teammate, with Ocon guaranteed a place with the team until 2024 under the contract he signed with the team last year.

Alonso's future is still undecided, although he has made clear he intends to continue in the sport for at least a few more seasons. Discussions between both parties are expected to take place in the summer as they evaluate the best path forward.

When asked by DAZN about his relationship with the Spaniard, Ocon said that he hopes to continue racing alongside him, adding that Alonso will always have a seat in F1 should he want one:

I think we make a good couple, and I really enjoy working with him. Fernando doesn't have to prove anything. If he wants to continue in Formula 1, he will stay.

He's still motivated, and he's the lion he was."

Despite Ocon's confidence that Alonso will continue in F1 next season, there are still doubts surrounding whether Alpine will give Piastri an opportunity with the main team in 2023.

Piastri is respected to sign a contract with Williams, but if the Grove-based team do not reach an agreement with Alpine, it is not out of the question that Alonso could lose his position in the team.

Some would argue that replacing Alonso is unlikely, given his performances and pace this season, but F1 is a ruthless sport, so there is no guarantee that the 2005 and 2006 champion will keep his seat.
